 A Personal Message

Women Wake Up! is the result of a spiritual journey triggered by the death of a younger sibling. When she was diagnosed
with Lupus, I realized how little my family and I knew about the disease when we started investigating treatment options.
Over the years, we met many more women who also had no, or very little knowledge of an illness that is two-three times more
prevalent in women of color.
These statistics, combined with those for HIV/AIDS, diabetes, heart disease, obesity
and stroke in the African-American community are staggering. When I began to think about how many women and their families
would benefit from awareness of preventive, early detection and natural treatment alternatives, Women Wake Up! was the result.
Watching my sister battle Lupus for 10 years while continuing to passionately pursue her dreams is inspirational
to me. Her courage and laughter in the face of what would have broken many, is a personal mantra to not only fully embrace
my own life, but to encourage others to do so as well.
My hope is The NuSpirit Project will act
as a catalyst for change ... inspiring, encouraging, uniting and uplifting.
